Although We're Dying Inside
just gonna say it now: you’re warned for triggers.
This blog discusses things that are mostly big in the media. Abortion, gay marriage, police brutality (thanks, fucking OWS), etc. But recently the author of this blog has been focusing on rape.
It needs to be talked about more. People need to be better informed about this topic. But I’d like to add that I have a few close friends who, though are great advocators for this topic, make the same mistake that the author of this blog did too.
Guys…you know that MEN can be rape survivors too, right? That women can be rapists?
Here’s the thing. If a girl is drunk then she can’t consent to sex and therefore the man is raping her (technically). But uh, if that guy is also drunk, then he too is being raped. If a girl is sober and a guy is drunk, then he is being raped. If a guy says he isn’t in the mood, or if he says no, or if he says anything that’s not “yes”, then he’s being raped. If a girl manipulates him into doing it. If he doesn’t want to have sex and isn’t coherent/ above the influence, then he is being raped.
Men can also be raped by other men. Not as common as the “norm”, I guess, but it’s still entirely possible and it still definitely does happen.
While it’s true that the majority of rape survivors are women and the majority of rapists are men, this does not mean all. Men can be raped too. Women can be rapists too. This is not nearly discussed enough. Women are told to talk about it. They’re instructed to dress appropriately, to travel in groups, to carry pepper spray, to knee a man in the nuts if he attacks her. They take self defense classes and are encouraged to seek help.
Men are not given this same help. If a man is being attacked and raped by a woman, what part of the body should he hit her to inflict the same damage as a knee to the groin would be? If a man pepper sprays a woman… well, how many men do YOU know are encouraged to carry pepper spray in their pocket? If a woman is attacking a man and he pushes her off, hits her away, what are the chances that he will not be persecuted for hitting a woman?
Men can be raped. And (I am not trying to offend anyone with this statement, but it’s my blog and I write what I want) I personally believe that in today’s society, being a male survivor of rape is probably worse than being a female survivor. Males are more likely to be ostracized and/or made fun of rather than comforted. They are NOT encouraged to talk about it. And it’s sad. Especially because people, much like the author of this blog, claim to be equal opportunists but so rarely understand that men have the same opportunities to be victimzed as well.

apparently, my wound from surgery in march didn’t actually heal. they jusy told me it did and hoped it would, then had to tell me “oh wait just kidding”. so now its infected again and pretty much all she told me to do was go to this wound care center. theyre gonna deal with it now. she said they’ll clean it or whatever and they might have to put a wound vac on it.
um.
absolutely fucking not.
then i mentioned excision surgery (which i don’t really want, but is the lesser of two evils when the other choice is weekly trips to southington and a “wound vac” which isn’t happening) and told her the school nurses at cmsv recommended it. she said feel free to get a second opinion, but no. and then my dad said no second opinion.
um.
what the actual fucking fuck.
i’m 21. i do what i want. i know i’m just a lowly student, but i’m pretty sure i still know more about this than my dad. he read a 10 year old pamphlet. i read up-to-date research and WENT TO NURSING SCHOOL. that has to count for something, right?
we’ll see how this go. if this dr. mcallister guy gets near me with a wound vac i will cut a bitch. it’s summer and i am not spending it sucking bodily fluids out a hole in my back.
Pick up a copy of the new issue of Alternative Press on sale tomorrow for the story of Panic! At The Disco’s unreleased album Cricket And Clover that the band recorded in 2007. It’s part of AP’s “The Unheard Music” feature which also includes stories on unreleased music from My Chemical Romance, All Time Low, Green Day, Dashboard Confessional and 22 other bands.
“All those computers of mine are long gone. I don’t even have any of the lyric books. I went digging through my stuff trying to find something, but it’s not here. If anybody’s got it, I’d love to hear it.” - Ryan Ross
no but i want the music :(

fairytalesnlullabies: because you love me... will you make me a nutter butter blizzard? i went to DQ like every day when it was the blizzard of the month last summer (sometimes multiple times a day).
We don’t have the nutter butter cookies anymore! But the blizzard of the month for June is caramel brownie. There’s caramel, brownie, and… chocolate chunks? I can’t remember the third item… in it. But I do love you :)
